University of Chicago’s magazine features on auto sidescroll on it’s top image that is compelling and attention grabbing. It helps to establish a sense of visual hierarchy. The rest of the page is inviting and easy to use in a blog-like list format.
Print is well organized but lacks a very clear visual hierarchy; it does not work against the site, however, encouraging a more “pa-rousing” sort of feel where one is encouraged to explore. Navigation is placed well and the articles are inviting.
Virginia Magazine is a fantastic site that features and easy to navigate home (navigation bar along the top) ample white space to the sides and a gridded, blog like set up with multimedia integrated in. It’s easy to read and use and has good emphasis on content over design.
Brown’s front page alumni magazine has a main page that invites the user to explore, with full color pictures providing interest into topics, and none given more weight than others. Top nav bar makes it easy to use.
